We are always looking for quick and easy solutions for weight loss and we all want to drop dozens of pounds in days, if not sooner. Let me ask you this one question. How often are the good things in life easy to accomplish? Does anyone hand you a million dollars for doing just a little work? Could you ever meet the girl or guy of your dreams without putting in a little effort? Unless you're Ryan Seacrest the answers are no, and losing weight is no different.
There is no hard and fast rule to how much weight you can lose in a set period of time but if you're bigger, younger or male (sorry ladies) then the odds are you will lose more weight than someone who is smaller, older and female. That's just biology and the human body.
On average, someone following a healthy weight loss diet of eating right and exercising will lose a couple pounds each week until they achieve their goal. In the beginning of a diet you will lose more weight (when there is more weight to lose) and it will tail off gradually. Don't let this discourage you as you lose less weight because there is less weight to lose!
The reason that fad diets allow you to lose weight so quickly is they often just cause you to lose water weight and/or lose muscle, both of which will reduce the number you see on the scale but won't make you appear any thinner. When you return to a normal diet your muscle and water weight will return and you will be right back where you started.
Herbal supplements, diet pills and magical potions don't work and can do a lot more damage than they are worth. Best case scenario you may find something that gives you a little more energy but worst case it could cost you your life. Remember, the FDA doesn't review a lot of the diet supplements you can buy on the shelf so don't trust everything they claim without doing some research. If you want some extra energy, drink a cup of coffee or tea, your life is too much to risk on some tiny little pill.
The bottom line is that if you want to lose weight there is no better way than to just put in a little hard work by getting a gym membership, finding a diet buddy or following a reasonable diet program that focuses on exercise and eating with healthy portions. You will be a lot healthier and happier in the long run and the pounds will come off a lot faster than you think!
