Just as with adults you will find there are many different temperaments for infants. Some infants are laid back and easy going, others are more high strung and needy, this is sometimes called "high needs infant" or can also be known as "spirited child"

Having a high needs infant can be very difficult, and exhausting for new parents. It can come as a huge surprise if you have already had children who were laid back and easy to handle. If your first child is a high needs baby you can find yourself feeling isolated and like you aren't a good parent. This could not be further from the truth. You just need to find ways to help you handle your baby.

One of the best ways to deal with a high needs infant is to use a baby carrier. This is also called "wearing your baby". There are so many new baby carriers for infants now. You may see them called baby slings. There are a wide variety of slings and carriers now. You no longer just have the choices of the front pack carrier you find at the local department store.

If you are looking to find a baby carrier that's new for infants you will most likely have to buy one online. If you have never tried a baby carrier before you can find some help through your local La Leche League and another group who specifically assists in baby wearing and that is NINO (nine in nine out). Generally the leaders and members of these groups will have a variety of infant carriers available for you to try out.

There is a wide variety of carriers for your infant. Some are very simple, just a pouch of cloth really, and all you do is slide the baby in. Others are simple in design, but more complicated to use. You can use one large piece of fabric (minimum 5 feet) and learn how to basically wrap the baby to your body. There are also basic slings with rings you can use to adjust the length of the sling.

Wearing your baby has plenty of research to back up its benefits. It gives the baby a secure feeling, they did just come out of a relatively small womb. It also allows them to feel your heartbeat and to connect with you on a very close level.

Wearing your baby will also give you free hands. If you are living with a high needs infant it may be the only way you will get a free hand. You can
